Casual Wednesdays with The O’s

Quick wits are not quick enough for the speedily keen minds of John Pedigo and Taylor Young. The bar at “Renfizzle’s,” as Pedigo so lovingly refers to Uptown’s Renfield’s Corner, is virtually empty. Most likely because it’s 8pm on a Wednesday, and still socially taboo to throw back cold one after cold one. The O’s are setting up their plethora of instruments as the YouPlusDallas crew tests our audio and prepares to interview the classy dudes.

The O’s have toured Europe, and will be heading overseas again this summer. So, what are they doing playing in a bar on a Wednesday night? “We’ve only been around for about two and a half years now, so when we first started playing, we played at Barley House every Wednesday for a while. And to me, this is taking us back to Barley House, which is scary, but a totally fun environment because it’s really small and everyone can cram in and have a good time,” says Pedigo. Which is exactly what happened; the bar proceeded to mold into a tightly packed sardine can as fans surrounded the stage.

A seemless musician, Pedigo swings his banjo over his shoulder and moves toward the lowebro during “Tryin’ to Have a Good Time.” He makes the transition appear easy, like Nastia Liukin on the uneven bars. Good luck trying to rival that.

“What makes The O’s so much fun,” starts Pedigo, “is that it’s just the two of us, and we’ve got more room to do backflips,” Young completes his bandmate’s thought process. “I’ve never seen two guys finish each others’ sentences like that,” said 95.3 KHYI’s Joshua Jones on the duo’s bromance.

Young wrapped the dance party with a “thank you – now let’s go over there,” and pointed to the bar. This story ends here, as everyone (including the author) proceeded to order Coronas and Irish car bombs. To get in on more O-shaped action, you can see them 4/22 at the Annette Strauss Artist Square for Earth Day Dallas, and 4/28 at TheLoft. They’ll also be playing Homegrown Festival at 4pm on 5/14. We’ll be there. So should you.
